FAQ

Caller ID FAQ

What is caller ID?

Caller ID shows the phone number, and sometimes a name, of the person or business calling. With Talkroute, you choose which of your business numbers shows when you make calls or send texts, and what shows on your phones when customers call you.

How do I keep my cell number private?

Make business calls from the Talkroute desktop, web, or mobile app. Customers see your Talkroute number on caller ID, not your personal cell, even when the call uses your cellular network.

Can I choose which number shows when I call?

Yes. Set a default caller ID for outgoing calls and another for outgoing texts in Settings & Preferences, and switch numbers on any call with Call from on the keypad. You can use any Talkroute number your admin has given you access to.

Can I show my business name on caller ID?

Yes. Talkroute can set the caller ID name (CNAM) on your US local and toll-free numbers to your business name or a custom name, up to 15 characters. It’s included with every plan. Contact us to request it. After it’s updated, it can take a few weeks to show up across all phone networks.

Will everyone see my business name?

Caller ID display varies by phone and carrier. Some show a name and number, and some show only the number or the city and state.

Can I set a caller ID name for Canadian numbers?

Not at this time. Caller ID names are available for US numbers.

How often can I change my caller ID name?

Once a caller ID name is changed, it can be changed again after 90 days.

How will I know if an incoming call is for my business?

Set incoming caller ID to show your Talkroute number on forwarded calls, so you know the caller dialed your business. In the Talkroute apps, incoming calls show both the caller and the Talkroute number they dialed.

Do texts use my business number too?

Yes. Texts from the Talkroute apps go out from your business number. You can even set a different default number for texts than for calls.

Can I block unwanted callers?

Yes. Block any number from call history, voicemail, or the Blocked Numbers list, and turn on Block anonymous callers to stop callers who hide their number. Both are included with every plan.

Show up as your business, every time.

Your business number and name on every call and text, from any device, with your personal number kept private. Try Talkroute free for 7 days.
